Clinical Neurosciences Social

Invitations are extended to investigators at all levels and in all fields related to clinical neuroscience, especially to those working in aging and neurodegenerative diseases. Students, postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows, faculty, administration, and NIH staff are all encouraged to attend. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from the new head of NIH's National Institute on Aging Division of Neuroscience, Eliezer Masliah, PhD. Dr. Masliah will discuss the new funding opportunities enabled by the additional funds directed to Alzheimer's research via the President's By-Pass Budget with the approval of Congress. A recent blog post written by Richard Hodes, PhD, Director of the National Institute on Aging, provides some background. At this social, Dr. Masliah will make a presentation and will answer questions from the podium and one-on-one. Light refreshments will be available.

"Scratching the Itch"
This purely social event brings together neuroscientists with a common interest in itch research. The itch is the least understood of the somatic senses, but recent work has identified novel transduction molecules, spinal circuitry, ascending pathways, and a matrix of brain areas active during itch. The aim of this inaugural Itch Social is to provide an opportunity for researchers to meet old and new colleagues with a common interest in itch and pain, and to network and learn about other itch-related organizations and funding opportunities.
