Congressional Staffers Visit Neuroscience Laboratory During August Recess
During the 2015 August congressional recess, Anthony-Samuel LaMantia, director of the George Washington Institute for Neuroscience, hosted several congressional staffers at his laboratory for an informational lab tour. LaMantia showed participants his laboratory setup, including confocal microscopes and other equipment. Since the staffers work in areas related to health policy, it allowed for discussions on issues related to the importance of biomedical research.
During the lab tour, LaMantia told participants about the importance of federal funding for science and how decreased funding has affected his research. At the end of the tour, LaMantia offered to be a resource on scientific information in the future.
