2014 International Brain Bee Winner Announced
Gayathri Muthukumar of Bangalore, India: Champion of the 2014 International Brain Bee
The Brain Bee is a neuroscience competition for secondary school students that aims to motivate them learn about the brain, capture their imaginations, and inspire them to pursue careers in biomedical research. Students compete locally, feeding into national and then international competition. Norbert Myslinski of the University of Maryland is the founder and president.
The 2014 International Brain Bee was held in Washington, DC from August 6-10. It was sponsored by the Gorrepati Foundation, and hosted by the American Psychological Association. The competition was conducted by Judy Shedden of Canada and Kitty Tryon of the United States, with assistance from Julianne McCall and Michael Gavini.
The event was attended by students from 17 countries. After rigorous competition, Gayathri Muthukumar of Bangalore, India was named the winner. She won a laboratory internship with a neuroscientist, sponsored by SfN.
