Will Government Shutdown Bring New Research to a Standstill?
Last night NIH, NSF, and virtually all federal agencies ground to a halt. For a system already battered by the severe and indiscriminate cuts known as sequestration, a shutdown is a further blow to federally funded biomedical research and the researchers who rely on it.
Contact your legislators and tell them to reopen the government and show their support for the U.S. research enterprise.
Unless Congress takes action, NIH and NSF can’t process, review, or approve grant applications, let alone fund them. SfN is working with coalition partners such as Research!America and the American Brain Coalition to tell Congress that this needs to stop, and the Society needs your voices. Tell lawmakers that politics should not be a barrier to health and science progress. Contact your legislators now and visit SfN’s advocacy page for more information on how the shutdown could affect you and your science.
