A native of Albany New York, James (Jim) Fallon earned the PhD in Anatomy from the University of Illinois, and then undertook postdoctoral studies at UC San Diego. Jim joined the faculty of the University of California, Irvine College of Medicine in 1978 until the time of his retirement in 2008.
Jim is best known for his studies of the distribution and development of neurotransmitters, neuromodulators and growth factors in the central nervous system. Later his career, he studied human brain structure and function, through the use of PET/MRI Image analyses.
A very popular teacher of neuroscience and cell biology in both medical and graduate curricula, Jim received multiple teaching awards throughout his career.
Friends, colleagues and students will remember Jim for his impressive intellect, his sense of humor, and his skills as a fisherman.
