    Neuroscience 2024 Media Registration Now Open

    From October 5–9, thousands of neuroscientists from across the globe will convene in Chicago for the first time since 2019. Neuroscience 2024, the world’s largest annual meeting of researchers and clinicians exploring the brain and nervous system, will feature more than 10,500 presentations covering topics such as brain-computer interfaces, artificial intelligence, neurodegenerative disorders, treatment-resistant psychiatric disorders, and GLP-1 agonist effects on the brain.

    SfN Establishes James L. Roberts Endowed Fund

    The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) has received $128,000 from the estate of James L. Roberts, PhD. With the funds, SfN Council voted to create a new long-term endowed fund, The James L. Roberts Fund, and will use the income from its investments to create and perpetually fund James L. Roberts Trainee Professional Development Awards (TPDAs) beginning at Neuroscience 2024.

    Nancy Kanwisher, Doris Tsao, and Winrich Freiwald have been awarded the 2024 Kavli Prize in Neuroscience. The award recognizes their discovery of a specialized system within the brain to recognize faces.

    The 2024 Peter Seeburg Integrative Neuroscience Prize Awarded to Yang Dan

    SfN member Yang Dan, PhD, Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and professor of Neurobiology, University of California, Berkeley, has been awarded the 2024 Peter Seeburg Integrative Neuroscience Prize for her ground-breaking research on elucidating the brain circuits that control behavior with a special emphasis on those neuronal networks that control sleep.

    The 2024 Gruber Neuroscience Prize Awarded to Cornelia Bargmann and Gerald Rubin

    Cornelia “Cori” Bargmann, PhD, of The Rockefeller University, and Gerald “Gerry” Rubin, PhD, of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Janelia Research Campus, have been awarded the 2024 Gruber Neuroscience Prize. The award recognizes their pioneering work in elucidating the organization of circuits in behavior, and for their work in developing new genetics tools, which have advanced the entire field of neuroscience.

    SfN Past Presidents Eve Marder and Huda Akil were each awarded the National Medal of Science by President Joe Biden in a ceremony on October 24. The National Medal of Science the highest recognition the U.S. bestows on scientists and engineers.
