AbstractWomen in Neuroscience (WIN), an international organization, was founded in 1980 to foster the development/advancement of women neuroscientists. WIN's first meeting was held at the Society for Neuroscience (SFN) meeting in Cincinnati and was organized by Candace Pert, who served as chair of the steering committee. Steering committees oversaw newsletters, membership directories, and recommended female neuroscientists as speakers, committee members and officers to SFN. An executive board was established in 1997. In the mid-90s, WIN assisted SFN with the Phase II membership survey, assessing the progress of women in neuroscience and in establishing the Committee on the Development of Women's Careers in Neuroscience, a standing committee as of 1998. To support travel awards for graduate students, WIN started selling T-shirts in 1981. A memoriam to Ellen Kunkel-Bagden helped to support these awards. ...Nov 11, 2001
