AbstractThe protein alpha-synuclein is widely disseminated within the brain of patients with advanced Parkinson’s disease (PD) and there is increasing evidence suggesting that this abnormal dissemination and accumulation of alpha-synuclein may be neuro-toxic. T...Oct 21, 2019

AbstractMisuse of mu opioid receptor (MOR) drugs may cause addiction and is a leading cause to the rising opioid epidemic in North America. However, among clinically approved opioids a safer option to treat pain may be buprenorphine, which stands apart due to i...Oct 20, 2019

AbstractPreviously, it has been shown that aesthetic judgments of an artwork depend on contexts, such as the authenticity (Newman et al., 2011), or the display place (Kirk et al., 2009). In the present study, we aimed to examine whether the contextual informati...Oct 19, 2019

AbstractBackground: The “brain-predicted age” approach quantifies apparent brain age compared to normative trajectories of neuroimaging features. Elevated brain-predicted age has been observed in symptomatic Alzheimer disease (AD), but has not been evaluated in...Nov 11, 2021

AbstractStudies have shown associations between functional brain activity and lab-based gait measurements, where increased brain activity is associated with better gait performance. Traditionally, gait performance in laboratory settings has been quantified via ...Nov 10, 2021

AbstractEmotional resilience to stressful events depends, in part, on our ability to predict and control threats in the environment. Thus, determining the neural response to predictable and controllable threats, may provide new insights into brain processes tha...Nov 9, 2021

AbstractThere is an increasing acceptance that neurodegenerative diseases manifest as network disorders. In particular, we have established that corticobasal syndrome (CBS) is characterized by structural network degeneration involving grey matter and white matt...Nov 9, 2021

AbstractTraumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) is a relatively frequent event that imposes a massive burden on the health, quality of life and socioeconomic situation of affected persons. Tissue damage after SCI occurs in two phases: primary and secondary damage. P...Nov 9, 2021

AbstractThe correspondences or differences between human and nonhuman primates in connectivity between auditory cortex and other brain regions remain open questions: What is the evidence for evolutionary conservation or specialization in effective connectivity ...Nov 6, 2018

Peer-reared (PR) rhesus monkeys with early maternal separation later exhibit aggressiveness, impaired impulse control, alcohol abuse, and low CSF 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid. This study compared regional brain serotonin transporter (SERT) binding between nine PR and seven mother-reared rhesus monkeys with [11C]DASB positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. Parametric images of binding potential (BP) (which is proportional to B max/ K D, in which B max is transporter density and K D is dissociation constant) and relative blood flow ( R 1) were generated by the two-parameter multilinear reference tissue model. R 1 images were used for coregistration and normalization of PET parametric data to the magnetic resonance imaging template space. Group BP differences were analyzed voxelwise by Student's t test in SPM2. Region of interest-based parameter values were also calculated to obtain the magnitude of regional BP differences between the two groups. For the PR group, SERT BP was decreased by 10–23% across a ra...Apr 26, 2006
