SfN's Government and Public Affairs activities give neuroscientists a unified voice on legislative and regulatory issues in Washington, DC. SfN encourages members to visit Capitol Hill or local District offices to discuss issues important to the science community.

May 12- SfN President Michael Goldberg testified before Congress in support of funding for the National Institutes of Health.  Read the oral testimony and submitted written testimony.

April 14 - SfN submits written testimony (PDF) to the House of Representatives on FY 2011 NIH funding.

April 9 - SfN submits written testimony (PDF) to the Senate on FY 2011 NIH funding.

March 25 - SfN holds its 4th Annual Capitol Hill Day in Washington, D.C., with nearly 50 SfN members participating in this exciting event. Visit SfN's Captiol HIll Day page to learn more.

Feb. 28 - SfN issues February Advocacy Network Newsletter.

Feb. 22 - SfN submits written testimony (PDF) to the House of Representatives on FY 2011 NSF funding.

Feb. 1 - President releases his proposed FY 2011 budget, which includes $32.1 billion for NIH ($1 billion, 3.2 percent increase) and $7.4 billion for NSF ($550 million, 8 percent increase). SfN, along with Research!America and the Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research, supports $35 billion for NIH in FY2011 to maintain the scientific and economic momentum generated by the Recovery Act.

January 22- SfN launches "In the Lab: Recovery Act Stories", which share promising science funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). SfN also released the "Recovery Act: NIH Neuroscience Research" (PDF) fact sheet, a snapshot of NIH-funded neuroscience research made possible by ARRA funds.

January 19- SfN member Marina Picciotto led Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) on a tour of the Department of Psychiatry and the Connecticut Mental Health Center at Yale University. Read more about the tour.

January 13 - "Responding to FOIA Requests: Facts and Resources,” (PDF) a best practices guide for understanding and responding to U.S. Freedom of Information Act (fiat) requests, was released by the National Association for Biomedical Research (NABR) in collaboration with SfN and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB).
