Attendees to Meet in San Diego for Neuroscience 2018: The Global Epicenter of Brain Science
SAN DIEGO — More than 30,000 neuroscience researchers, clinicians, and advocates from around the world will convene in San Diego November 3-7 for Neuroscience 2018 to explore and uncover the vast wonders of the brain. The annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN), Neuroscience 2018, is the world’s largest source of emerging news and a global showcase of the latest developments in brain science.
With nearly 14,000 scientific presentations, more than 500 exhibitors, and numerous workshops and networking events, Neuroscience 2018 showcases the incredible breadth of neuroscience and the tremendous impact brain research has on society’s health and well-being, while previewing the latest research innovations in the field. The meeting also has a tremendous impact on the San Diego region – a report from the San Diego Convention Center estimates the meeting will generate close to $90 million in local business revenue. This is the seventh time SfN’s annual meeting will be held in San Diego, following the convention center’s expansion. It was first held in the city in 1973.
“Neuroscience 2018 provides a fantastic opportunity to explore a vast array of scientific sessions, workshops, and other events to learn from some of the most enterprising minds from around the world,” said SfN President Richard Huganir. “The landscape of neuroscience research is rapidly transforming and the meeting provides a venue where scientists of all backgrounds are welcomed to share their research and how they approach problems and explore solutions in our field to advance the field globally. Ultimately, these discussions help to advance our understanding of the brain, leading to treatments for those around the world suffering from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other neurological disorders.”
This year’s program features two public events for those who will be in the San Diego area:
- “Music and the Brain” – Legendary jazz guitarist Pat Metheny, the recipient of three gold albums and the winner of 20 Grammy awards, will discuss the impact of music on the brain and our emotions and memory, as well as the process of creativity in music, art, and science and the role of music in healing. Saturday, Nov. 3, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. PST
- “Advocacy in Four Dimensions” – A panel of neuroscience experts will explore diverse advocacy perspectives, both inside and outside of the scientific community and how advocacy occurs on different levels, across career stages, and within various industries. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m. PST
Members of the public who wish to attend these events may register on-site at no cost at the San Diego Convention Center with a valid photo identification.
SfN also offers programming for the press that will highlight findings related to opioid addiction, vascular dementia, cannabis, artificial intelligence, and more.
