U.S. Legislators Celebrate Brain Awareness Week
Several U.S. legislators celebrated Brain Awareness Week (BAW) this year by giving floor speeches, providing statements of support, and posting on social media.
Rep. Blumenauer (D-OR) and Rep. McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), co-chairs of the Congressional Neuroscience Caucus (CNC), wrote a Dear Colleague letter urging colleagues to commemorate BAW and to join the CNC. Rep. Blumenauer also tweeted about the CNC briefing that took place during BAW.
Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-CA) gave a one-minute floor speech on BAW and the importance of scientific research, and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) gave a one-minute floor speech highlighting BAW and neuroscience research at University of Miami.
Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) submitted a statement to the Congressional Record discussing BAW and the importance of TBI research. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) also tweeted out a message about celebrating BAW. Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA) tweeted and issued a statement in support of BAW.
