Brazilian neuroscientists have informally gathered during past SfN meetings to discuss the improvement of neuroscience in Brazil as well as to celebrate the richness of Brazilian culture. In 2003, for the first time this gathering will become an official ancillary SfN event. Initially, the Brazilian Society for Neuroscience will be introduced and a formal meeting of Brazilian neuroscientists will be held to discuss strategies for the enhancement of neuroscience in Brazil, following up on the SBNeC initiatives launched recently. Then, we invite all neuroscientists to join us in an open workshop of Brazilian art forms that encompass music, dance and martial arts: samba and capoeira. “Caipirinha” (Brazilian drink) will be served. contacts:Stevens Rehen, PhD The Scripps Research Institute E-mail: srehen@scripps.edu Sidarta Ribeiro, PhD Duke University E-mail: ribeiro@neuro.duke.edu Dânia Hamassaki-Britto, PhD University of São Paulo E-mail: dhbritto@usp.br Web site: www.fesbe.org.br/sbnec/.
