AbstractIn the rat, glucose metabolism can be monitored using either fully quantitative [14-C]-2-deoxyglucose (2DG) autoradiography to assess local cerebral glucose utilisation (LCGU) or semiquantitative 2DG autoradiography to measure relative 2DG uptake. Previous studies within our laboratory have demonstrated that chronic intermittent PCP treatment induces both a metabolic hypofunction within schizophrenia-related brain regions using the fully quantitative technique (Cochran et al., 2003; Neuropsychopharm. 28:265-275), and specific deficits in the ability of rats to shift attentional set (Egerton et al., Program No. 796.13. 2004 Abstract Viewer/Itinerary Planner. Washington, DC: SFN). However, the fully quantitative technique is not compatible with behavioural testing, and hence limits direct association of the deficient attentional flexibility to the ineffective recruitment of the prefrontal cortex and associated circuitry. The aim of this study was to determine whether the end point measurement of 2DG autoradi...Nov 15, 2005
