SfN NOW ACCEPTING YEAR 2008 MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS; DEADLINE JULY 7, 2008 TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR ADVANCE MEMBER-ONLY REGISTRATION

The Society for Neuroscience accepts new applications for membership online. Online applicants will receive notification of their membership status within approximately one week. All required application materials may be electronically inserted (cut and pasted) into the online application form. Your designated sponsor will need to send you and e-mail including: (1) a brief statement that they wish to serve as your sponsor, (2) their membership identification number and (3) their contact e-mail address for verification. You may then insert sponsorship information into your online application form. A nonrefundable dues payment will be required at the time of online submission.

All complete applications received on Monday, July 7, 2008 by 5:00 p.m. EDT will ensure that membership is reviewed and granted by no later than 10:00 a.m. EDT, July 15, 2008, on the opening day of advance member-only registration for the 2008 annual meeting.  All applicants, regardless of method of submission, must be sponsored by two regular or emeritus active members of the Society and must submit a curriculum vitae and bibliography with the application form. Student applications require proof of enrollment in a degree-granting institution of higher education. Applicants must receive their nine-digit membership identification number prior to registering as a member for the annual meeting. Applicants in underrepresented countries may obtain sponsorship by faxing an application to the Membership & Chapters department with curriculum vitae. Student applicants must also submit proof of enrollment. A group of four volunteers from the Membership & Chapters Committee will serve as sponsors for those requesting membership in underrepresented countries. The receipt deadline for year 2008 applications without two eligible sponsors (from applicants in underrepresented regions only) was April 11, 2008, to ensure consideration prior to the 2008 abstract submission deadline.The Membership & Chapters Committee's volunteer panel will receive a copy of each applicant's curriculum vitae received by the deadline date and review each application for eligibility before sponsoring.
