Travel Awards to IBRO World Congress
SfN Travel Awards for the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) World Congress
The 8th IBRO World Congress will take place in Florence, Italy July 14-19, 2011.
Introduction
The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is pleased to offer up to 15 travel awards in the amount of $2,000 each to support the participation of US, Canadian, and Mexican graduate students at the IBRO World Congress, held every four years. Recipients of the travel awards are selected by the SfN Membership and Chapters Committee, based on the scientific merit of the abstract submitted to the Congress and the strength of related application materials.
Eligibility Requirements
The applicant must meet all of the following criteria:
• The applicant must be a US, Canadian, or Mexican graduate student who has advanced to candidacy for a PhD.
• The nominee must be the first author of an abstract to be presented at the conference.
• Both the applicant and his or her advisor must be SfN members.
• The applicant may not be the recipient of another SfN travel award in the same year.
Required Materials
The following materials are required for applications:
• Completed application form (Word 97-2003 document, .doc)
• Paragraph describing what the applicant hopes to achieve by attending the IBRO World Congress (see instructions on application form)
• Copy of the applicant's abstract submitted for the conference
• A one-page letter of recommendation from the applicant's advisor
• A one-page curriculum vitae from the applicant, including the following information: education, including date when the applicant advanced to candidacy for the PhD, honors/awards, and publications (abstracts and manuscripts)
Conditions of Award
• E-mails will be sent to applicants notifying them of the status of their application.
• The award will be presented in the form of a check made out to the recipient.
• Award checks will be given to recipients at the Congress. To receive the award, the recipient must attend the Congress and receive the check from the designated Society for Neuroscience staff member.
All required materials should be submitted as attachments (PDFs preferred, with the exception of the application form) in a single e-mail to awardsandprizes@sfn.org. Subject line should read "IBRO World Congress Travel Award." Questions can also be directed to this e-mail address.
