Internet and E-mail

The Internet and e-mail are powerful tools for communicating with your elected officials. Often, federal legislators have Web sites that include a general office e-mail address. Like phone calls, offices keep a count of the e-mails they receive on each issue. Be sure to put your credentials and voting address in the e-mail so the office knows that you are a constituent.

Generally, the same guidelines for writing formal letters also apply to e-mails. (For a detailed explanation, please refer to pages 2 and 3.)

CapWiz

The SfN home page (www.sfn.org) provides a convenient link to CapWiz, an online legislative action center, which allows you to find information about elected officials, issues, and the media. From CapWiz, you can:

  • Locate your elected officials and send a personal or pre-written letter directly from our site to their offices.
  • Look up information on elections and candidates in your voting area.
  • Find current issues and legislation.
  • Find how your elected official voted on the most current legislation.
  • Search for local and national media that serve your area.
