SfN honors women in neuroscience with the Celebration of Women in Neuroscience event each year at the SfN annual meeting.
The luncheon features a notable neuroscientist guest speaker, a slideshow featuring women leaders, and small-group discussions on issues of concern to women in neuroscience. The event typically draws more than 200 attendees including graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, PIs, department chairs, and institute heads, for a thoughtful and inspiring program.
Recent guest speakers have included Phyllis Wise, Anne Young, and Barbara Sahakian.
The 2013 Celebration of Women in Neuroscience Luncheon was held November 12 in San Diego. Carol Barnes, Regents’ Professor in Psychology, Neurology, and Neuroscience at the University of Arizona, delivered a keynote address on “The Evolving Face of Neuroscience: Role of Women and Globalization,” followed by a roundtable group discussion on women in leadership.
