Engage the Media

Engaging the media is a great way to disseminate the scientific perspective to a larger audience. All politics is local and that is an advantage to advocates.

It is much easier to get an editorial or op-ed published in the local newspaper than a major national paper. Relating personal experience to the local community will help make any form of communication more relevant and publishable. Also, don’t discount the power of blogs and other online communication. The majority of people now get their news online—one can reach a wide audience through these venues.
