The Jacob P. Waletzky Award

Background
The Jacob P. Waletzky Award  is given to a  young scientist who has conducted research or plans to conduct research in the area of substance abuse and the brain and nervous system.  The award, which includes $25,000, is presented each year at the Society's annual meeting.

Eligibility

  • Nominees must be active in research at the time the award is given.
  • Nominees must have received a PhD or MD (or equivalent) within the past 15 years.

Nomination Criteria

  • Nominations must be made or endorsed by an SfN member. 
  • Nominee does not have to be an SfN member.
  • Self-nomination is not permitted.
  • No person may nominate more than one candidate.

Application Information
Please upload the following nomination materials to the new SfN awards submission site (note: all materials must be submitted by the nominator):

  • An essay of 500-words or less describing the future goals and direction of the applicant's planned research in the area of substance abuse and the brain and nervous system.
  • One required nomination letter and a maximum of two optional letters of recommendation 
    • One letter must be from the nominee's current or previous mentor
  • Current CV
  • A list of 12 of the most important publications authored or co-authored by the nominee.
  • The date on which the nominee's advanced degree was awarded must be provided
