2009 Recipients of the Graduate Student Travel Awards were honored at Mentoring: A Networking Event in Chicago.

Graduate Student Travel Awards

Background 
The Society for Neuroscience offers Graduate Student Travel Awards, administered by the Professional Development Committee (PDC), to honor outstanding female and male graduate researchers.


The award includes complimentary registration and a stipend to offset travel expenses for the SfN annual meeting.

Eligibility
Awardees are chosen on the basis of the scientific merit of their abstracts, a letter of nomination from a principal investigator or advisor, research and career goals, and essay.  The award is open to both women and men.

Applications must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicant must be the first author of an abstract to be presented at the annual meeting
  • Applicant's abstract must be of the highest scientific merit
  • Applicant's advisor must be an SfN member
  • Applicant must be a graduate student who has advanced to doctoral candidacy 
  • Laboratory from which the awardee is chosen should not have been the recipient of a travel award the previous year

Application Information 
Application packages are reviewed by the PDC's  Women in Neuroscience Subcommittee (WINS). Incomplete packages are not considered.

We are no longer accepting applications for Neuroscience 2009.  Please check back for more information.

Deadline for receipt of application materials was Monday, June 1, 2009.

Award recipients are notified in August. Awards are presented at the Society's 39th Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL. Recipients will receive award checks in the mail after the annual meeting.
