Neuroscience 2009 Proposals Due Jan. 14
Plan ahead for Neuroscience 2009, scheduled for Oct. 17 -21 in Chicago, Ill. SfN is now accepting symposia and minisymposia proposals and Social Issues Roundtable proposals for Neuroscience 2009. Deadline is Jan. 14.
Nominations for Officers, Committee Members Are Open
The SfN Nominating Committee encourages Regular members to submit nominations for President-Elect and Treasurer-Elect. Nominations help broaden the base from which we choose candidates for the ballot and enable better representation of various SfN constituencies. The Committee on Committees is also accepting 2009 committee replacement nominations. View a list of committees, charters, and current rosters. All nominations are due Feb. 6.
Hormone Important in Recognizing Familiar Faces
Oxytocin, a hormone involved in child-birth and breast-feeding, helps people recognize familiar faces, according to new research in the Jan. 7 issue of The Journal of Neuroscience. Study participants who had one dose of an oxytocin nasal spray showed improved recognition memory for faces, but not for inanimate objects. View press release.
SfN Reaches New Membership Record in 2008
The 2008 membership total of 38,761 represents a slight increase over the 2007 membership total (38,677) and a 5.75 percent increase over the 2006 membership total (36,653), demonstrating the continued vitality of the field.

Neuroscience 2008 drew more than 31,000 attendees from around the world. The Society's 38th annual meeting, held in Washington, DC from November 15-19, provided a forum for researchers and scientists to exchange information, learn, and network. Neuroscience Core Concepts: Available Online
SfN's new publication featuring fundamental principles about the brain and nervous system, Neuroscience Core Concepts, is now online. The eight concepts are presented in lay language and offer a practical resource to teach about the brain. History of Neuroscience Videos Now Online
